I got to admit, this Storm Talon to Dark Talon conversion is a long and bloody painful journey. I’ve learnt many new things and new ways to build old things, but more than anything else it’s a bloody frustrating trip.
The cheek support took ages to finalize, and the gun mounts — not the guns themselves — took forever to crystallize into reality. For example:
This was Mount Mk. I, from another earlier post. Turns out the ammo feed was simply too big and was unsuitable. So I broke the parts down and rebuild for Mk. II.
No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. The left is the Mk. II, which was bashed together. The right is the Mk. III, which was to become the serial production, and was some 20% smaller in all dimensions than the Mk. II, and more tightly constructed. But it was still very hefty, and distracted from the look and got in the way.
So back to the cutting board and the Mk. IV came out as a rough prototype. That was good but needed to be tightened for serial production, thus the Mk. V finally turned out:
So finally a gun mount with 360 rotation, >90 elevation, is relatively compact, and is a generic mount for my magnetized weapons. It took five iterations for it to properly come into focus, and that’s just the mount, not the actual weapon. Gargh.
